Image Compressor

Compress JPG and PNG by re-encoding at a quality you choose, with optional resize. Nothing uploaded.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop in a JPG or PNG, or click to choose one from your device.
  2. Pick the output format, JPG for photos, PNG when you need transparency.
  3. Set the quality, and optionally cap the maximum width to shrink large images further.
  4. Compare the original and compressed sizes, then download the smaller file.

Examples

  • A 4 MB photo straight off a camera often drops below 500 KB at 75 percent quality with no visible loss, ideal for a website or email.
  • Capping the width to around 1600 pixels is usually plenty for web use and can halve the file again on a large image.
  • Re-saving a heavy PNG photo as a JPG can cut the size dramatically, since PNG is built for graphics rather than photographs.

Frequently asked questions

Does compressing upload my image?

No. The image is re-encoded with a canvas in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The download is generated locally on your device.

Will quality drop?

JPG compression is lossy, so very low quality shows artefacts. Around 70 to 80 percent is usually indistinguishable from the original while cutting the size sharply. PNG stays lossless but compresses photos less.

Why did my file get larger?

Saving a flat graphic as a high-quality JPG, or a photo as PNG, can grow the file. The tool flags this so you can switch format or lower the quality to land a smaller result.
