GIF Optimizer

Shrink GIFs in-browser with minimal quality loss.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop in an animated GIF.
  2. Set a scale and choose whether to drop frames.
  3. Optimize, compare the sizes and download the smaller GIF.

Examples

  • Scaling a large GIF to 60 percent often roughly halves the file.
  • Keeping one frame in two smooths the size down further for a subtle loop.
  • A reduced palette plus a smaller size makes a shareable, lightweight GIF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. Frames are decoded and re-encoded entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Why does the colour look simpler?

GIF supports up to 256 colours. The optimizer fits a shared palette across the frames, which is part of how it shrinks the file.

My browser cannot decode the GIF, why?

In-browser GIF frame decoding needs a current Chrome or Edge. If your browser does not support it, the tool will say so rather than guess.
