Common frame rates, where they are used, and how they convert for slow motion.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- Pick the timeline frame rate your project finishes at.
- Pick the capture rate you shot at.
- Read the slow-motion or speed-up factor, and browse the table for where each rate is used.
Examples
- Shooting 60p for a 24p timeline gives smooth 2.5x slow motion.
- Shooting 120p for 24p yields 5x slow motion, enough for a graceful action beat.
- Matching capture and timeline at 25p keeps everything at real time for broadcast.
Frequently asked questions
Why 23.976 instead of 24?
It is a legacy of NTSC colour, which nudged 24 down by a tiny fraction. Most cinema and streaming masters are actually 23.976, even when people call it 24p.
Does footage have a built-in speed?
No. A clip is just frames. The playback rate of the timeline decides the speed, which is why a 120 fps clip becomes slow motion on a 24p timeline.
Which rate should I shoot?
Match your delivery for normal motion, and shoot a higher multiple of it when you want slow motion that conforms cleanly without frame blending.
