Camera Match Calculator

Match A-cam and B-cam exposure and settings so cuts blend.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Enter the A camera ISO, aperture and shutter.
  2. Enter the B camera settings.
  3. Read how many stops apart the two are, and the change that brings B into match.

Examples

  • If B sits at half the ISO of A with the same aperture and shutter, it reads one stop darker and needs opening up.
  • Matching a second body so a two-camera interview cuts together without an exposure jump.
  • Trading ISO for aperture on the B camera to hit the same exposure while keeping a different depth of field.

Frequently asked questions

Why do cameras need matching?

Different bodies, lenses and base ISOs expose differently. Matching the exposure means cuts between cameras do not jump brighter or darker.

Should shutter match too?

Keep both shutters near double the frame rate so motion blur matches as well as brightness, otherwise one camera can look subtly different in movement.

Does this account for colour?

No, it matches exposure in stops. White balance and picture profile still need setting to match, ideally with a chart, for cuts to blend fully.
