Budget Top Sheet

Summarize a film budget by category with line items and running subtotals, add a contingency percentage, and read the grand total. Export to PDF or CSV.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Pick a category, then add each line item with an optional account number, a description and an amount.
  2. Items group automatically under the standard sections: above the line, production, post and other.
  3. Set a contingency percentage and the tool adds it on top of the subtotal for you.
  4. Read the grand total, then export to PDF for the top sheet or CSV to build out a detailed budget.

Examples

  • A short film top sheet might be a handful of lines: director and cast above the line, camera, crew and locations in production, an editor in post.
  • Bumping the contingency from ten to fifteen percent instantly shows the cushion you are carrying against overages.
  • Exporting to CSV gives you a starting skeleton you can expand into a full account-level budget in a spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

What is a top sheet?

It is the one-page summary at the front of a film budget. It rolls every detailed account up into category subtotals and a grand total, so producers and financiers can see the shape of the budget at a glance.

How does contingency work?

Contingency is a percentage buffer for the unexpected, usually around ten percent. The tool calculates it on the subtotal and adds it to give the total you should actually plan to spend.

Is my budget uploaded?

No. It is kept in your browser on this device only. Export to PDF or CSV to share it or keep a copy.
