Focal Length Equivalent Calculator

Full-frame-equivalent focal length for any sensor size.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Pick the sensor your camera uses.
  2. Set the focal length of your lens.
  3. Read the full-frame-equivalent focal length and the framing it gives.

Examples

  • A 35mm lens on Super 35 frames like a 52mm on full frame, a touch tighter than a standard lens.
  • A 12mm on Micro Four Thirds equals a 24mm full-frame wide, useful for interiors.
  • A 50mm on a 1-inch sensor reaches like a 135mm portrait lens, because the small sensor crops in hard.

Frequently asked questions

Does equivalence change depth of field?

No. Equivalent focal length only describes framing. Depth of field and perspective follow the real focal length and distance, which is why a small sensor looks deeper at the same framing.

Why convert to full frame?

Full frame is the common reference most people picture a focal length in, so equivalence lets you compare lenses across very different camera formats at a glance.

Is the crop factor exact?

It is based on the sensor diagonal against full frame. Real sensors vary slightly by manufacturer, so treat the equivalent as accurate to within a millimetre or two.
